Okay, so, I got this thing for watches, right? And there’s this brand, Jaeger-LeCoultre, they call it JLC for short. They make some seriously cool watches. I mean, really top-notch stuff. And I stumbled upon this one model, the Duomètre Sphérotourbillon, and I was like, “Wow, that’s a beauty!” It’s got this crazy mechanism inside, the tourbillon, that just spins around like crazy. It’s mesmerizing.
So, being the tinkerer that I am, I thought, “Why not try to make one myself?” Now, I’m no professional watchmaker, not even close. But I love a good challenge, and this seemed like the ultimate one. I started by just staring at pictures of the watch, you know, really getting a feel for how it’s put together. It is pretty wild.
I did some digging around the internet, trying to find any info I could on this specific model, and I found a couple of good reads about it. They are now all available in the 2024 collection but I am not a rich guy, you know. I tried to find some cheap ones on the internet but I didn’t have too much expectation.
Then came the fun part, trying to replicate that tourbillon. I used a bunch of bits and pieces, whatever I could find. Lots of trial and error, let me tell you. There were times when I thought, “This is impossible, I’m never gonna get this right.” But I kept at it, tweaking this, adjusting that, until slowly but surely, it started to come together.
After countless hours, and I mean countless, I finally had something that resembled the Sphérotourbillon. It wasn’t perfect, not by a long shot, but it was mine. And it actually worked! Seeing that little tourbillon spinning, powered by my own two hands, that was a feeling I can’t even describe. It was like, “Yeah, I did that!”

- Finally, I put it all together.
It was a real learning experience, building this watch. I learned so much about how these intricate mechanisms work, and about my own patience and determination. Would I do it again? Absolutely. In fact, I’m already thinking about which watch to tackle next. Maybe something even more complicated, just to see if I can pull it off.
So yeah, that’s my little watchmaking adventure. It was a wild ride, but totally worth it. And who knows, maybe one day I’ll be good enough to make a real, working replica. But for now, I’m happy with my little creation.
