Got the itch to remake a PRADA Small Prada Galleria Saffiano Leather Bag, so I got to work. Let me tell you, this was a journey!
Getting Started
First things first, I needed to really get to know the bag. I spent a good chunk of time staring at pictures of it online. There are so many of these PRADA bags, big ones, small ones, you name it. I focused on the small one because, well, that’s what I wanted to remake. The Galleria Saffiano, that’s the one. I made sure to look at it from every angle, zooming in on the details, you know, the stitching, the hardware, the logo.
Gathering Supplies
Next up, I had to get my hands on the right materials. Now, I learned that this Saffiano leather is the real deal. It’s genuine leather that’s been treated and embossed, not like full-grain leather that gets a patina over time. It is also chrome-tanned. I needed to find something that looked and felt just like it. I hit up some local leather stores, feeling the different leathers, comparing textures. It took some time, but I finally found a piece that I thought was a good match. I also had to find the right hardware, the buckles, the zipper, the little feet on the bottom. That was another adventure, let me tell you, hunting through different shops, both online and offline.
The Making Process
- Cutting the leather: This was nerve-wracking! I carefully measured and cut each piece, making sure to follow the original design as closely as possible. Double-checked, triple-checked, you know how it is.
- Stitching: I don’t have one of those fancy industrial sewing machines, so I had to hand-stitch the whole thing. My fingers were definitely feeling it after a while, but I think it added a nice personal touch. I tried my best to match the stitching pattern of the original bag.
- Attaching the hardware: This was tricky too. I had to make sure everything was aligned perfectly and secure. I used some strong glue and some tiny screws to make sure those pieces weren’t going anywhere.
The Final Touches
Once everything was assembled, I added the finishing touches. I carefully attached the PRADA logo, making sure it was centered and straight. Then I gave the whole bag a good cleaning and conditioning to make it look its best.
The Result
After all that work, I finally had my own handmade PRADA Small Prada Galleria Saffiano Leather Bag! It’s not perfect, of course, but I’m really proud of how it turned out. It was a lot of work, but it was also a lot of fun. I learned a ton about leatherworking and bag making. Plus, I now have a unique bag that I made with my own two hands! It feels good to have created something from scratch, you know? And who knows, maybe this is just the beginning of my bag-making journey!
