Okay, so, I’ve been wanting to remake a Patek Philippe Calatrava 6119R-001 for a while now. This thing is a beauty, you know? Real classic look. I did some digging around, and man, it’s not easy to find all the right parts. But I was determined, so I started by ordering a bunch of stuff online. You wouldn’t believe how many different shades of rose gold there are! I finally settled on one that looked pretty close to the original.
Then came the dial. That silver dial with the little marks—that’s what makes this watch special. I messed up a couple of times trying to get it right. It’s harder than it looks! Got the hands, got the case, and started putting it all together. It’s like building with LEGOs, but way more expensive and way easier to break. I swear, my hands were shaking the whole time.
- First, I laid out all the parts on my workbench.
- Then, I started with the movement, which is like the engine of the watch.
- Next, I carefully attached the dial.
- After that, I put on the hands. This was super tricky!
- Finally, I put it all in the case and closed it up.
It took me a few weeks, working on it a little bit each day. And you know what? It actually worked! I couldn’t believe it. It wasn’t perfect, of course. There were a few little things that weren’t quite right.
I wore it around for a few days, just to see how it felt. It felt good, really good. Like I’d accomplished something big. I even took it to a watch guy I know, and he was pretty impressed. Said it was a decent job, especially for a first try.
Size and Stuff
This thing’s not too big, not too small. It’s 39mm wide and about 8mm thick. Just the right size, I think. Fits nicely on my wrist.
So, was it worth it? I don’t know. It was a lot of work, and it definitely wasn’t cheap. But I learned a lot, and I ended up with a pretty cool watch. Would I do it again? Maybe. It’s definitely something I’m proud of. This Patek Philippe, this PP Calatrava 6119R-001, it’s got that classic style, like a good pair of boots. Feels right.
