This here OMEGA, you know, that Speedmaster Chronoscope, it’s a real fancy-pants watch. I reckon it’s got that classic style everyone’s hollerin’ about. You see a lot of them city folk wearin’ ’em. My grandson, he’s got one, and he’s always goin’ on about how special it is. Says it’s like the ones them astronaut fellas wore to the moon. Now, I don’t know ’bout all that, but it does look mighty fine on his wrist.
He says it’s got somethin’ called a “manual-wind movement.” I reckon that means you gotta wind it up yourself, like them old clocks we used to have. And this here “Hesalite crystal” thing, I guess that’s the glass on the front. He says it’s like the old kind, not like them newfangled ones. And the black part where the numbers are, that’s the “dial.” He sure does know a lot of big words for a young’un.
Now, I heard tell there’s a whole mess of fake ones out there. Folks tryin’ to pass ’em off as real OMEGA watches. They say you gotta be careful, ’cause some of ’em look mighty close to the real thing. They even copy that Speedmaster style. My grandbaby told me so. He said, “Grandma, you gotta be careful”. You know how they talk.
You best watch out for them fakes. They say you can tell by lookin’ close at that “dial” thing. That’s what they are always saying. Look at that “dial”, he keeps saying. The numbers and such, they might be a little off. Or the writin’ might be spelled wrong. Them crooks ain’t too good at spellin’, I reckon. They are always tryin’ to trick you, you see. And the spaces between the letters, they might be all messed up. And some other things I just can’t remember now. You know how old people like me are. We don’t remember much of anythin’ anymore.
And that shiny ring around the glass, the “bezel” they call it. I reckon you gotta look at that too. I heard that there’s a “bezel” on the watch, and it is somethin’ you need to pay attention to. Just like the “dial” thing. You gotta look at them both to make sure the watch is real. I don’t know what exactly you need to look at, but you gotta look at them, that’s what they say. A real OMEGA, that Speedmaster Chronoscope, it’s gonna be perfect. Them fakes, they always got somethin’ wrong with ’em. A real one, though, that’s gonna be somethin’ special. Somethin’ you’ll want to keep in the family for years to come. Just like my old weddin’ ring.
Some of them watches, they got a see-through back. You can see all the little gears and things movin’ around. My grandson, he loves that. He’s always showin’ it off to his friends. Now, I think they are cool, too. You can see what’s inside the watch, how it works, and stuff. I don’t know what exactly you can see, but I reckon you can see the stuff inside. I heard if you can see the inside of the watch, it’s easier to know if it is real or fake. I think that’s what my grandbaby said to me. He says the fakes, they look all wrong on the inside. It is just different, and you can just tell it’s not the same as the real ones. He says you can find a picture of a real one online to compare. And you will know for sure if it is a real one.
If you’re thinkin’ ’bout gettin’ one of them OMEGA Speedmaster Chronoscope watches, you best do your research. There’s a lot of information out there. My grandson, he’s always on that internet thing. He says there are all sorts of websites and forums where folks talk about these watches. I think he said there is a serial number checker on the web. He kept saying about this serial number thing. And I just don’t understand what that is. You better ask your grandbaby about it, they know these things. They seem to know everythin’ these days. I know my grandbaby does.

- Look real close at the watch, ‘specially the “dial” and the “bezel”.
- If it’s got a see-through back, look at the inside parts. They should be just right.
- Ask somebody who knows ’bout watches if you ain’t sure.
- Don’t get tricked by them low prices. If it’s too good to be true, it probably is.
