So, I’ve been eyeing this Large Prada Galleria Saffiano Leather Bag for what feels like forever. I finally decided to go for it and remake one myself. It all started when I saw it on the Prada official store. Man, that thing is a beauty! But the price tag? Let’s just say it wasn’t exactly in my budget.
I did some digging around. They say it’s a classic, and this Saffiano leather is something special. Turns out, it’s this special type of treated leather that old man Mario Prada himself patented. This Galleria style was launched back in 2007. I mean, it’s got history!
But like I said, buying one wasn’t really an option. Then it hit me – why not try to remake it? I’ve done some leatherwork before, nothing this fancy, but I figured it was worth a shot. I found some patterns online, not for this exact bag, but close enough. It was for the Prada Galleria, but for the medium size one, and I needed a large one.
First, I needed to get my hands on some Saffiano leather. That wasn’t easy, let me tell you. I searched high and low, finally found a supplier that had something similar. It’s not the real deal, but it’s got that same textured look.
- Next up was cutting the leather. I carefully measured everything, marked it out, and used my rotary cutter to get those clean lines. This part took a while, gotta be precise, you know?
- Then came the sewing. This was the real challenge. I used my trusty sewing machine, but man, this leather was thick! I broke a few needles along the way, but I pushed through.
- Putting it all together was like solving a puzzle. There are so many pieces to this bag – the front, back, sides, bottom, handles, not to mention all the pockets and compartments inside.
It took me a good few weeks, working on it in my spare time. There were moments when I thought I’d bitten off more than I could chew. But I kept at it, and slowly but surely, the bag started to take shape.
And you know what? It turned out pretty darn good! It’s not a perfect replica, but it’s got that same Galleria vibe. I even managed to add my own little touch – a custom lining with a fun print. It is not perfect, but I made it and I love it!
