Okay, so, I wanted to get my hands on a Patek Philippe Calatrava 5227J-001. You know, the one with the pure lines, it’s self-winding. I mean, it’s recognized as the very essence of the round wristwatch, supremely elegant, and one of the finest symbols of the Patek Philippe style.
First, I searched around for information about it. I found out it’s a pretty big deal, 18k yellow gold, 39mm, silver dial. It’s called the Calatrava. I read that if you want a real one, you gotta go to those fancy stores. And yeah, if you got a lot of money, this is the kind of thing you might like.
But I decided to do a remake, original order, whatever that means. So I started by collecting materials that looked similar to the original. It was tough, but I managed to find some decent stuff. I didn’t want to use real gold, obviously, so I went with a gold-plated material instead. I think I got a good deal on it.
Next, I worked on the dial. I tried to replicate the silver look of the original. It wasn’t easy, and I messed up a few times, but I finally got something I was happy with. I used some tools I had lying around, nothing too fancy.
Then came the hard part – the movement. I’m no watchmaker, but I gave it my best shot. I studied some diagrams and watched some videos online. I took apart an old watch I had to see how it worked. It was like a puzzle, but I managed to put together a movement that kinda worked like the original. It was self-winding, just like the real deal.
- First step: Collect the materials.
- Second step: Create the dial.
- Third step: Assemble the movement.
- Fourth step: Put it all together.
Finally, I assembled the whole thing. I put the dial and the movement into the case. It was a bit tricky, but I got it done. I even managed to add a strap that looked similar to the original. The end result? A pretty decent remake of the Patek Philippe Calatrava 5227J-001. It wasn’t perfect, but I was proud of it.
The Outcome
It’s not the real thing, but it looks pretty good. I can wear it and feel like I have a Patek Philippe on my wrist. It’s not for everyone, but I enjoyed the process of making it. And who knows, maybe one day I’ll be able to afford the real one. Until then, this remake will do just fine. It took some time and effort, but I’m happy with how it turned out.
