Imitation Jaeger-LeCoultre JLC Master Ultra Thin Perpetual Calendar: Is It Worth Buying?

Okay, so I’ve been eyeing this Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Ultra Thin Perpetual Calendar for a while now. It’s a beauty, right? But man, that price tag. I mean, we’re talking about some serious dough here. So, I started digging around, trying to figure out if this thing was even worth it.

First off, I wanted to see if these watches even hold their value. Turns out, most of them kinda do, but they don’t exactly skyrocket in price. Some special ones, like limited editions or those fancy vintage ones with a whole bunch of bells and whistles, they do pretty well on the used market. I guess the average ones just sort of bob along, which is alright, I guess. Not a bad thing, but I was thinking it would grow in value or something.

Then I started comparing it to other fancy watch brands, like Patek Philippe. People online were saying Patek’s are still a bit nicer in terms of how they’re made and finished, but Jaeger-LeCoultre’s are catching up, and they’re way more experimental with their designs. These guys are called the “watchmaker’s watchmaker” cause they even made parts for those other big brands. It is pretty cool when you think about it, they are the brains behind some of these brands.

I got sidetracked a bit, too. There was a lot of chatter about the Master Ultra Thin Moon. Lots of folks love it. I even saw one guy who was choosing between that one and the Master Calendar. The way he was talking about it made me feel like I was missing out on something good! He was going on about the small seconds dial and the moon phase thing. Sounds cool, but I’m set on this perpetual calendar, so I kept on looking around.

There was also a bunch of random questions about some other watches, like some Polaris Chronograph that people are waiting for. I’m not into those ones, so I skipped past those pretty quick. I am not that into the whole sports watch vibe, so that was a no from me.

Then, I really started looking at the pre-owned market for this watch. Found a few good deals, but you gotta be careful, right? Lots of fakes out there. I ended up finding a seller who seemed legit. He had all the papers and the box, and he even sent me a bunch of extra pictures. We chatted for a while, and he seemed like a straight shooter, a decent dude for sure.

I pulled the trigger. Paid the guy, and waited. It felt like forever, but finally, the watch arrived. Man, opening that box was something else. It was even more stunning in person. The details, the weight, the way the light hits it… it’s just something else. I was nervous for a bit, but man when I saw it, I knew I made the right choice.

So, yeah, that’s my story of getting my hands on the Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Ultra Thin Perpetual Calendar. It was a bit of a journey, but totally worth it. I’m still not sure if it was the smartest investment, but who cares? It’s a beautiful watch, and I’m going to enjoy wearing it. I love this thing, I really do. It is one of my favorite purchases I have ever made.

My Takeaways

  • Do your research. It’s a big purchase, so make sure you know what you’re getting into. You don’t want to end up regretting something that costs this much money.
  • Don’t be afraid to buy used. You can save some serious money, just make sure you’re buying from a reputable seller. There are a lot of fakes out there, so you have to be super careful. It can be scary buying something like this second hand.
  • Trust your gut. If something feels off, it probably is. There were a couple of times I was sketched out by some sellers, and I am glad I trusted my gut.
  • Enjoy the process. It’s not every day you get to buy a watch like this, so savor the moment. Even the stress was kind of fun.

Hope this was helpful for anyone else thinking about getting one of these beauties. It was a wild ride for sure, but I would not change it for the world. Now I just have to figure out how to explain this purchase to my wife…
