Okay, so, I’ve been really into this whole DIY fashion thing lately, and I just had to share my latest project with you guys. I decided to remake the iconic Prada Galleria Saffiano Leather Bag. You know, the big one, the large Saffiano leather one. That bag is a total classic, but it’s super expensive, so I thought, why not try to make one myself?
First things first, I needed to gather all my materials. I went online and found some really good quality Saffiano leather that looked almost identical to the real deal. Then I got all the other stuff, like the lining fabric, the metal hardware, and a bunch of other bits and pieces that I’d need along the way. I also did a ton of research, watching videos and reading articles about how the actual Prada bag is made, I think it’s composed of 83 pieces. I found some really helpful tips and tricks.
Once I had everything I needed, I started by carefully studying the design of the original bag. I measured and drew out all the different pieces on pattern paper. This part took a while, but I wanted to make sure I got it right, down to the last millimeter.
Next, I cut out all the leather pieces using my pattern. This was a bit nerve-wracking because I didn’t want to mess up the expensive leather. I used a really sharp rotary cutter and took my time with each cut, making sure everything was precise and clean. I found that using a ruler and a good cutting mat helped a lot with this step.
After cutting the leather, I started assembling the bag. I began with the smaller parts, like the handles and the side panels. I used a heavy-duty sewing machine and some strong thread to stitch everything together. It was slow going, but seeing the bag take shape was super rewarding.
One of the trickiest parts was attaching the metal hardware. I had to punch holes in the leather and use special tools to set the rivets and attach the D-rings. This took some practice, but I eventually got the hang of it. And I even managed to find some hardware that looked just like the original Prada pieces, which was a major win!
Finally, after many hours of work, I finished my bag! I have to say, it turned out pretty amazing. It looks so much like the real thing, and I’m really proud of how it came out. Sure, there are a few imperfections here and there, but overall, I think I nailed it. I’ve already gotten so many compliments on it, and people can’t believe I made it myself.
